seriously...

well, for some reason i cant go to sleep. most likely it is because i just started drinking caffeine after 46 days without it. the alertness at 11pm is a price im willing to pay for the delight i experience in that morning cup of coffee and that afternoon coffee smoothie from smoothie king.

anyways, back to the matter at hand... because i cant sleep i read like 8 chapters of mere christianity and then proceeded to crack open the ole Molecular Biology book. yes, i realize this is extremely dorky but id like to draw your attention to the fact that this is the call on my life currently... i enjoy this stuff. ha, which brings me to my next point, how much i enjoyed discovering the following statement in my reading.. i enjoyed it so much, i had to get out of my bed, travel down the stairs and share this with everyone:

"The key role of mitochondria in apoptosis is even more perplexing when one considers that these organelles have evolved from prokaryotic endosymbionts and that prokaryotes do not undergo apoptosis and do not possess caspases... the evolutionary origin of these unique proteases remains to be clarified."

now for the explanation... haha. you probably are like, what the hek? why did that send her down the stairs to share? a little background-- so "apoptosis" is programmed cell death, which means the Lord provided your cells with a sacrificial instinct. if things go wrong inside or problems come in from the outside, your cells have the ability to sacrifice their life to prevent problems for the cells around. "caspases" are the main player in this mechanism. they pretty much enable this cell death to happen. this is where the story gets interesting--- when something inside your cell goes crazy and your best bet is for the cell to die, your cell sends this molecule called BAD to its mitochondria. remember that word from biology class, mitochondria? if you are thinking the "power house of the cell" then you got it! ha, its also that "organelle" that scientists believe supports the evolution of multicelluar organisms from a simple bacteria. they think a small bacteria, got inside a bigger bacteria and had a nice relationship (endosymbionts)- that is they lived happily ever after and millions of years later, here we are. bogus? well, that's the truth most scientist buy into. alright, so for those of you still with me... these mitochondria get a signal from BAD and release cytochrome c... cytochrome c activates the important caspases. get it? all this translates into= mitochondria play a vital role in apoptosis. without them, cells.. tissues, organs... ORGANISMS... would not make it in life. hmmm... sounds like they were Created as a part of the cell, not just moved in at some point in the evolutionary tree.

and that is why i love the statement above... it is "perplexing" isnt it? well, duh... maybe it doesnt make sense because their endosymbiont theory isnt true. ha, but that answer would be to easy. and so, i go forward along the path my Father, my Creator has laid out for me. to reflect His light into the dark parts of Molecular biology. most of all to shift the gaze from Molecular biology and knowledge... to the Face of Jesus. for them to see Him, know His love and then REALLY see His Glory in what they have studied for so long. i long to love those who are so lost. i want to be used, to be seen as the Lord's love in the flesh.

i SEE, but it is what i dont see that strengthens my faith.
