JOHN 8:29
"And He who sent Me is with Me; He has not left Me alone, for I always do the things that are pleasing to Him"
i think a lot about why we do things. its a platform the Lord and i have been dancing on for a while. im not sure if all know this about me, but i kind of have an obsession about God's call for us to be. He has revealed so much to my heart about this and so when the word "do" comes up i pay close attention.
see, my early christian walk was ruled by duty. the whole concept of enjoying the Lord was not a thing i quite understood. but, i was a kid who obeyed rules just because i liked to compete with myself and prove i could obey any rule out there. yes, you question if i had friends. i mean i was the epitome of the good kid. i imagined God with a sunday school chart, and i got stars for good deeds and stars taken away if i was bad. i really started out with the christian thing just because my parents went to church and it was something i thought i could be good at. all i had to do was... everything "right." well, the good Lord placed some key people in my life and gradually i learned more and more that Jesus made a whole lot of sense. it wasnt until i actually did some shameful things that my growth turned exponential. its funny how those things we wish we would have never done, become the experiences we are thankful for going through. wow, im really getting off track here.
anyways, this whole idea of just being became my theme around two years ago. then the study about identity with gcm just fueled the fire. knowing the new creation we are and just acting according to who we are is all it takes. being removes our eyes from us. we spend a lot a time always checking ourselves out, making sure we are doing everything accordingly, questioning every move. when we just agree that we are everything that God says we are, we start looking more at HIm and seeking Him and who He is in us so that we can live from that.
so, my question after reading this line of scripture... why and how did Jesus do? why does He "always do" the pleasing things. hmm.. are we supposed to do pleasing things. we cant just be. but then the words just screamed out at me. Jesus does because God is with Him. yes, i know Jesus was God, but it wasnt the man part of Jesus that He acted from , always TRYing to do the right thing.. but He did because God was with HIm, God dwelled in HIm.
and who moves in when we believe and trust in Jesus? the Holy Spirit, thats right, we have God with us. as new creations we can be WITH God. He calls us HIs righteousness. now, we all know that aint anything we brought to the table. so, why do we think as christians we are signing up for some tuff job. He sets the table and we get to eat off of it. that food works in us and we do do. no doubt. haha, i just came up with that.. get it.. we DO do. anyways its true, thats probably why we process the food the way we do. a lesson learned. we have to meet with HIm, be with HIm, be at the table if we ever plan on doing pleasing things. then that work, that fruit that we begin to bear looks like HIm because it came from Him, and fruit that looks like HIm is true to a tree that is redeemed.
alright, so this may seem elementary... maybe the Lord is just taking me back to basics sense He's about to start pouring out to some youth, but how important is it for us to daily realize who we are and where we must live from. we must live from Life
i have an illustration about a tree, but i may save it for later.
i close with this. an excerpt from a book i am reading...
"the Lord has no longing for anything but love. He puts no price on other things. His taste is exclusive. His covetousness is confined to that one thing. O if we could be as simple and as single in our desires as God!"
be loved. love
